Bioenergy is emerging as a key pillar in India’s clean energy transition, reducing fossil fuel dependence while supporting rural incomes. Ethanol and biodiesel blending, CBG, and waste-to-energy programs are there to promote biofuels. Ethanol blending has grown from 1.53% in 2014 to 15% in 2024, with a 20% target by 2025. Programs like the Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana, 2G ethanol refineries, and incentives for diverse feedstocks are boosting production. The launch of E20 and E100 fuels, along with retrofitting support for older vehicles. Platforms like the Global Biofuels Alliance are also playing a critical role in global collaboration and scaling innovation in this space.

India’s energy demand is expected to double by 2030 to tackle this the country is now shifting towards sustainable alternatives like bioenergy as part of its clean energy transition. National Bioenergy Program and Samarth Mission aim to promote biomass use and tackle issues like stubble burning. 5% biomass co-firing in coal plants and Central Financial Assistance for bioenergy projects are the major initiatives, India is working to unlock its 42 GW bio-power potential, of which only 11 GW is currently tapped. Platforms like India Bioenergy and Tech Expo are essential for advancing bioenergy in India and fostering collaboration with in the industry.

In today's world the important discussion in India and on Global Platforms is environment which is impacted largely by industrial emissions and waste. The emissions contributed by industries, transportation and vehicles are to be curtailed down. Several initiatives are being taken globally to lower the emissions and carbon content from the environment. The commitment by Government of India at United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) under Paris Agreement has motivated the industry to invest in Green Verticals.
